Child neurology is a 3-year sub-specialty training program that provides competency in identifying and managing complex childhood neurological illnesses and neuro-developmental issues. An accredited training institution will provide trainees exposure in neuro-physiologic tests, neuro-imaging examinations, molecular and genetic testing, transition care for adolescents and adult neurology rotations.
A Child Neurology Fellowship program requires completion of a general pediatrics residency program, research work and membership to the Philippine Pediatric Society. After a multi-step specialty board examination, membership as a fellow to both the Philippine Neurological Association and Child Neurology Society, Philippines is granted. Further specialization in related fields is highly encouraged.
As of 2024, there are more than a hundred actively practicing child neurologists in the country.
